Weekend Foodie 3

Published: Sep 5, 2021 by Jenn · This post may contain affiliate links

What do you love about September? Living in Kentucky I can feel and see the seasons changing. There’s a golden hue that starts to envelop everything from the trees to the food in my kitchen.

As blue jeans become my daily attire and I try to resist the early urge of purchasing 20 pumpkins for my front porch, I’m eager with the excitement for fall baking. It’s time to stock your fridge with homemade pie crusts and visit the markets to load up on stone fruit.

Basic Recipes to Welcome in the Fall Season

Fall spices, seasonal fruit and cozy flavorings are the best way to tickle your palate for all the autumn dishes coming your way. Here are a few of my favorites.

  • Easy Wine Poached Pears can be made with white or red wine and served with ice cream or used as a dessert topping.
  • Your house is going to smell amazing when you make Slow Cooker Apple Butter. Smear apple butter on biscuits, use as pie filling, top ice cream, or make a peanut butter sandwich.
  • Everyone needs to know hoe to make a Simple Caramel Sauce. I could eat this by the spoonful straight from the jar.
  • Enjoy ice cream all year long with this fall inspired recipe for Caramel Apple Pie Ice Cream.

Savory Fall Recipes to Try

It’s still warm enough to grill outside and enjoy dining al fresco. Here are some ideas for a relaxing meal outside.

  • Best Global Barbecue Recipes – Saveur
  • My new recipe for Apple Burgers, have pork, beef, apples, and sage in the patty. Top them with cheddar and caramelized onions.

FAV Food Products

Fall food season is all about spices, canning fruit, baking pies, plus roasting pumpkins and sweet potatoes. These are a few of my must have kitchen items to make kitchen activities run smoother.

  • If you plan on baking pies, you need a couple of King Arthur 9 inch pie pans. I’ve tested so many pie pans over the years and this is hands down the best!
  • Try these Weck Jars for all your food storage and canning needs.
  • Gorgeous Mauviel Copper roasting pan for all your fall veggies!

RESTAURANT REVIEWS

Last week I took a short trip to Lexington, KY to listen to some music, watch a horse show, and enjoy quality time with a dear friend. While exploring downtown, we purposely ventured into new establishments. Check out some of these places on your next trip.

  • BAR ONA for sipping craft cocktails surrounded by plants, brick textures and chill moody vibes.
  • Delicious Latin cuisine at Corto Lima paired with an amazing mango margarita.
  • Grab a meal anytime of day at the Postmaster’s Pub, the fish and chips are delish!
  • Dinner for two at the Lockbox inside Hotel 21C, then tour the art displays before another cocktail.

Hope you have a wonderful September friends!

Cheers, Jenn
